Ethics Presentation
Ethics Presentation
This project is definitely a brain scratcher. The first few weeks were souly trying to find something that I am passionate about. I initially felt about doing violence in media, or the rise in Britain’s ‘yob’ culture, but when I had the group discussion with Alan and Dave, it became a bit more obvious that I was more interested with the armed forces. Another person in the group gave that out on her list she had compiled of possible ‘tasks’, and due to knowing so many people involved in the armed forces, and hearing their varied support, I felt that I could actually do something with this.
This project made me a lot more confident at reaching out to people. Iv rung/written to several associations connected to the forces, for any help that they can give me. The AFF in particular was very helpful(www.army.mod.uk/aff/) sending me many leaflets, magazines and general information. I have been bold when ringing these companies that it is the lack of welfare for the TA that I am interested in. Some of the companies’ responses were very positive; that they thought that it was a problem needed solving. Where as others tried to deny the fact and simply went on to explain what’s available for the main 3 forces. This (in some cases) infuriated me more, but gave me the boost I needed to get something done.
It is something that I feel even more strongly about now, and am trying to pursue as far as I can go. Initially I began contemplating an information pack that is automatically sent out to families of TA members. This was well received with many people, thinking it was a great idea. But as this project is to be ventured within my own area (multimedia), this has turned into a website that I hope to be continuing with successfully. Although I am still keeping the idea for a pack at the back of my brain, since I feel a multileveled attack is needed on this cause.
The presentation that I gave on how this was going, I felt went well. I felt that this idea would be better conceived with a hand’ on approach, using audience members; A demonstration, other than a power point presentation, full of facts and figures. Since I'm campaigning for more of a community within the armed forces, it would be wrong to show this thru facts and handouts. I need to show what the community would be like, need to get my audience to understand.
However, I did notice that I was very nervous when it came to standing up and doing it. It’s something that I need to practice more at. I’m a confident speaker in groups, and will gladly give my opinion or anything that I feel can further someone else work. But when it comes to planned talks, I feel a lot more nervous, therefore my speech is hurried, and I seem to get out of breath easier. Hopefully I can find some help for this, maybe talk to friends in performing arts?
