D&ad brief

Ok. As i am writing this, im in the middle of no where, surrounded by mince pies, and no internet, so i appologize to my many readers(lol) for having like 5+blogs appear out of know where come january.

Been sent the new D&AD briefs for 2008, and once again i find myself attracted to doing something for the sevices.
The policing brief "designing out crime" http://www.dandad.org/studentawards08/briefs/pdf/SOCIAL_DESIGN.pdf, is my first interest. Maybe its because of the company iv kept recently, but policing has been on my mind. Part of me since college has been tempted by the specials once i got a full time job, and there are several ideas floating in my head atm, at new ways of reducing crime.

The other main intersting brief iv found is the http://www.dandad.org/studentawards08/briefs/pdf/ADVERTISING_TEQUILA.pdf army brief. Last year i took on a brief trying to aid retention in the army/TA, and it seems kinda poetic to tackle recruitment this year. There are alot of adverts flying about at the moment, premoting the armys college to high school children, and a whole wave of tv/web adverts/movies to premote the army for all ages. Since this has to be shown in both a 2d(pamflet) and digital website splash/info page, i know i can do this. Maybe iv watched to much band of brothers and a fair few war movies recently, but i have some vary vivid images in my head.

Ok mince pies, turkey, toys and wine are out of the way(for a few hours atleast) back to work. RE-thinking over these briefs iv still got alot of work to go on both before i think il make up my mind. Iv seen several images about on the Busses, TV and generally around norwich that are tryign to demote the idea of crime. Some have been made by local school children, some seem quite funny, but i spose theyre aimed at a slightly older audience, pulling on the heart strings if u will. But the people who commit these crimes wont really care. The most effect advertisment iv seen recently for anti crime/drunken behaivour is the 'not a good look=knives'http://youtube.com/watch?v=PYNtFikQyTE one or the 'drunken super hero' advert. But once again people who carry knives probably laugh at that advert, and when you're drunk and climing scafolding/buildings the advert is the last thing you'll think about.

This is a kind of pyschological aproach to it, but its needed. No point having an advert that theyll laugh at and ignore. one advert i think that is universally loved is the hedgehogs telling you to be carefull crossing the road safely. But dont think soemthing so cutesy wud pull of for anti knife crime or vandalism......

Hopefully going to be able to talk to some of the social development officers up at newi wen i get back to wrexham, since that is kinda their speciality. Until then i have a bit of info off mat and his social science stuff. look more at ideas for the army wen back to abergelle

ok....booze done with for 2007:D....bring on 08! or work...lotsa work.
Thought more about the army, and i think thatll be my stronger point. Cant seem to think of anything original for the police idea. But the army. Been looking on their exsiting site, and theres alot of potential stuff to work with. Theyve definately got a style and a strict moto...ect
And i think that the website is perfect for me. Since the audience is mid teens, i think i can produce an interesting interactive site, that will also show of my style.
Had a few ideas for themes, that il have to rework to sink into the armys site, but i keep seeing typical band of brothers sort of things. And a strong image of a coin....more will be revealed soon.


jan 7th.

gonne make this short, cos got alot to do today, Not much been done since last journal, since been all over the place, diff relatives, moving back and forth to houses, and think im coming down with something. Hopefully gonna see someone in the carreers office this weds, they all seem really helpful to give me information on joining. Also found pathfinder very interesting, and i wud like to link that in with my work if possible. Read over some material that was 'of use' to my policing brief, but my interest in the army one is too strong now. Think im leaving that one behind.
